🇵🇰 Current Political Situation of Pakistan — 27 April 2025
🔥 Growing Tensions Between Pakistan and India
In the past week, relations between Pakistan and India have become much worse. On April 22, gunmen attacked tourists in Pahalgam, a town in Indian-administered Kashmir. Sadly, 26 people were killed. A group called The Resistance Front (TRF), which is linked to a Pakistan-based group, said they were behind the attack.
India immediately blamed Pakistan for supporting terrorism, but Pakistan denied this and asked for an international investigation. In response to the attack, India took strong actions:
-
It ended the Indus Waters Treaty (an important water-sharing deal).
-
It stopped giving visas to Pakistanis.
-
It closed the Wagah border crossing.
-
It sent Pakistani diplomats back to Pakistan.
Pakistan also replied strongly by:
-
Stopping visas for Indians.
-
Closing its airspace to Indian airplanes.
-
Expelling Indian diplomats.
-
Suspending the Simla Agreement, which helped manage peace talks.
There has also been gunfire between the two armies along the Line of Control (LoC), and India released extra water into the Jhelum River, causing floods and panic in parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
🏛️ Political Developments Inside Pakistan
While tensions with India rise, Pakistan is also facing important political changes at home. Recently, a man named Naveed Ahmad was given a life sentence in prison. He was responsible for shooting and injuring former Prime Minister Imran Khan back in 2022.
At the same time, Imran Khan himself is currently in jail. He has been convicted in several cases, including corruption and leaking official secrets.
💸 Economic Challenges Continue
Pakistan’s economy is also under pressure. To deal with the difficult financial situation, Pakistan has asked China for an extra 10 billion yuan (about 1.4 billion US dollars). This money is meant to help Pakistan manage its economic challenges through a financial agreement called a currency swap.
